Country looking for an alternative govt to Congress and BJP: Uma

Hardwar, Aug 5 (UNI) Bhartiya Janshakti Party President Uma Bharti today claimed her party which is based on the ideology of ''Ram and Roti'' will ultimately emerge as the alternative government that the country was looking for.

Addressing a public meeting in Uttaranchal as her Bharat Suraksha Yatra entered the state, Ms Bharti mounted a scathing attack on the leadership of both the Congress and the BJP.

''The governments of both the Congress and BJP have failed to deliver. At this time the country is looking for an alternative to both the Congress and the BJP. My party, based on the ideology of ''Ram and Roti'' which symbolizes nationalism, security and concern for the problems of the common man, will ultimately emerge as this alternative,'' she said.

Raking up the issue of Ms Sonia Gandhi's foreign origin, she said she could never become the country's Prime Minister.

''If Sonia Gandhi wants to be the Prime Minister of India, she will have to take birth from the womb of a woman of the country,'' she added.

Ms Bharti also asserted that her decision to quit the BJP was final and irrevocable. ''The top leadership of the party is gripped by ideological confusion and lacks clarity of vision. The party has gone down to such abysmal depths that now it is past reform,'' she said.

Commenting on the controversy generated by Mr Jaswant Singh about the presence of a foreign mole in the PMO, she said that he should apologize to the nation.

However, she added that the Congress, which by appointing a ''foreigner'' as its president and made all the security documents of the country accessible to her, had no moral right to raise the issue.

Replying to another question about Mr Natwar Singh's involvement in the UN oil-for-food programme in Iraq, she said Mr Singh should''spill the beans'' so that the country might know the role of the top Congress leaders in the deal.

Ms Bharti further said leaders of many political parties, including the BJP and the Congress, were in touch with her to join her political outfit '' which would give a new direction to the polity of the country.'' After completing her assessment of all the political aspects by the end of September, she would decide about the number of seats to be contested by her party in the coming elections to the state assemblies of U P and Uttaranchal and the prospects of electoral alignments with other like minded parties, she said.
