Centre ''sitting quiet'' on HR violations in Lebanon: Mulayam
Lucknow, Aug 5 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav today slammed the Centre for sitting quiet on the issue of human rights violations in Lebanon.
Addressing a gathering at the foundation laying of ceremony state human rights commission building here in the presence of Chief Justice of India (CJI) Justice Y K Sabarwal, Mr Yadav -- without taking names -- said'' a country was being bombed and we cannot afford to sit back and watch.'' ''This is human rights violation...the founders of our constitutions too had advocated the need to defend human rights even in other countries.
''Leaders like J P (Jai Prakash Narain) had raised the issue of democracy in Nepal. Now, democracy has been achieved and it would continue,'' he said.
The Chief Minister also approved a demand of the state human rights commission for more monetary assistance and granted an additional Rs 10 crore to it.
