AK 47 ammunition found in abandoned box at Rly station

Chennai, Aug 5: Several rounds of live ammunition used in AK-47 rifles and pistols were found abandoned in a trunk box at Katpadi Railway Station on July 29.

Government Railway Police and RPF sources told here today the box was opened last evening amid tight security.

The box was initially booked from Mhow in Madhya Pradesh and rebooked for Katpadi on the Bangalore-Chennai Passenger train by one Pradeep.

Since the box remained unclaimed for the last one week, the officials opened it and found ten live rounds of AK-47 ammunition, five empty shells, eight live rounds of 7.62 ammunition, two bullet leads and five live cartridges of 9 mm pistol.

Investigation was on to trace the source of the ammunition, they said.
