8-year-old boy spends night in well, rescued

Bangalore, Aug 5 (UNI) In a virtual re-enactment of Prince's trauma of spending over two days in a narrow borewell in Haryana, an eight-year-old boy, who was pushed into a 40-ft-deep well in the city by his uncle last night, had to spend a harrowing night before being rescued by the fire brigade today.

Police said Silambarasan, son of a daily wage worker, was taken out of his house by his maternal uncle and allegedly pushed into a dry well, before fleeing the spot. The reason for his act was not yet known.

Though the boy cried for help, no one could hear him as the well was in a secluded place. The third standard student had to spend the night in the well in cold and pitch dark conditions. The dawn of day brought along good fortune for the child as someone heard his cries and alerted the police who sought the help of the fire department.

The fire fighters arrived at the scene and pulled out the boy to safety.

Though a bit shaken, the brave Silambarasan slowly narrated the incident. The boy, who had suffered minor injuries in the leg, was taken to a hospital where first aid was given to him and a health check up was conducted. He was then sent home.

Polce were on the look out for the boy's uncle.

It may be recalled that Prince, a five-year-old boy, slipped and fell into an open 60-ft borewell pit at Kurukshetra in Haryana on July 21. As the opening was narrow, he could not be rescued immediately. After a relentless battle for over 50 hours by the Army and other authorities, the boy was finally saved.
