VP's Jan Morcha to gherao UP assembly on Aug 9

Lucknow, Aug 4 (UNI) Former Prime Minister Vishwanath Pratap Singh led Jan Morch would gherao the Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Bhawan here on August 9, coinciding with the anniversary of 'Bharat Choro Andolan'.

The former PM said here Jan Morcha activists would march from Shaheed Smarak in nearby Kakori on the morning of August 9. ''We would gherao the assembly edifice later in the day seeking removal of a corrupt, anti-people and anti-farmer government from UP.'' On Independence Day, Jan Morcha activists would march to the Dadri power project premises of Reliance Energy to protest the acquisition of land from farmers.

''The project was to start in two yrs. But, so far nothing has happened, while the farmers have been made to forego cultivable land at throwaway prices,'' he alleged.

On July 8, Mr Singh and suspended Samajwadi Party MP Raj Babbar were arrested on way to Dadri.

''I have a letter from Reliance Energy. The company wants to export most of the power it plans to produce. If I am wrong in my assessment then the CM deny my allegation,'' Mr Singh asserted.

He also asked Congress and BJP to explain whether it was necessary for governments to acquire land for such projects. ''It is a free market. Industrialists should approach farmers for land. The government should step in only to remove final glitches,'' he opined.
