Two cops acquitted of bribe charges
Mumbai, Aug 4 (UNI) The special Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) court today acquitted a police sub inspector and a constable of bribe charges, slapped on them eight years back.
Special ACB court judge A V Potdar found the prosecution evidence wanting and acquitted PSI Jahedali Yusufali Saiyed and constable Vishnu Bhagwan Bhosle, attached to the Deonar Police Station.
According to the prosecution case, the two cops had accused a scrap dealer, Abdul Sattar Ibrahim Shaikh, of receiving stolen goods and had demanded a sum of Rs 1,500 for not arresting him.
The dealer had approached the ACB following which a trap was laid on March 4, 1998 and the two nabbed while accepting the bribe, according to the prosecution case.
