Top players to take part in PSA Otters squash meet

Mumbai, Aug 4 (UNI) Leading players from across the world will vie for top honours in the six-day PSA Otters Club Open squash tournament beginning here from August 8.

Addressing a press conference here today, the organisers stated that the USD 10,000 dollar PSA event and a One Star squash tourney would be sponsored by Otters Club itself.

Among the leading contenders would be world number 35 Dan Jensen of Australia, who will be top seed along with Timothy Arnold and Mohd Adnan, both from Malaysia, Darren Lewis and Neil Hitchens, both from England and the Pakistani trio of Yasin Amjad, Ali Raza and Mamoon ur Rashid.

The Indian challenge would be spearheaded by world number 43 and the second seed here Ritwik Bhattacharya and world number 59 and the third seed Sourav Ghosal and the wild card holder Gaurav Nandrajog.

The winner of this event would receive USD 1,282 dollars, while the runner-up will take home USD 877 dollars. The matches would be played on court number three which has been fully air-conditioned and renovated for the event, the organisers further stated.

Meanwhile, the Otters Club Open Squash tourney will be run concurrently with the PSA event and has attracted 500 entries already.

The men's winner will receive Rs 50,000, while the runner-up will be richer by Rs 25,000. In the women's section, the winner will take home Rs 20,000, while the runner-up will get Rs 10,000, the organisers stated.

Among the top players who will participate in the Otters Open squash tourney are Manish Chotrani, Supreet Singh, Manek Mathur, Aditya Jagtap, Vikram Malhotra. Among womens, however, Joshna Chinnapa will be missing as she is busy with the preparation for the SAF tourney, the organisers stated.
