Vijayawada, Aug 4 (UNI) All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) Vice-President Kolli Nageswara Rao today said the 20 tmc water from Krishna Delta was released to Bhima project in 1996 and refuted reports published by a Telugu daily in contrary.
Talking to newspersons here, he said the water allotment from Krishna Delta was not a new allotment to Bhima, as written by the newspaper.
Mr Rao said the allotment of water to Bhima was essential from the point of view of integrated irrigation development in Andhra Pradesh. There would be no loss to Krishna Delta, even if the water was allotted, he said and added the command area could be irrigated fully as usual.
He said all the political parties accepted the allotment in 1996 and the Central Water Commission (CWC) also granted permission to construct the project.
He alleged that the previous Telegu Desam Party(TDP) Government failed to take the initiative to construct the project. The present Congress Government, however, came forward to construct it, he added The Brijesh Kumar Tribunal, had held an all-party meeting on the share of Krishna water to the State at Hyderabad on August one, he added.
