Three priceless Jain idols stolen
Rohtak, Aug 4 (UNI) Three priceless idols have been stolen from the Digambar Jain Temple in Rohtak City leading to protests by the community.
The members of the Jain Community held a silent protest march and submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) this morning demanding immediate recovery of the idols stolen from Babra locality temple and arrest of the guilty.
According to reports, three idols - an ancient stone idol of Bhagwan Adinath and two Asht Dhatu (eight metals) idols of Bhagwan Chawa Prabhu - were found missing by the priest following the opening of the temple for public last evening after being closed for a few months.
Rohtak SP C S Rao himself visited the spot to make investigations into the theft. The local city police has registered a case.
According to the temple management committee chief Vijender Jain, the stone idol of Bhagwan Adinath was nearly 500 years old. The thieves did not touch any other article including silverware.
Today, hundreds of city dwellers including women, led by the local leaders of the Jain community took out a silent protest march which started from the Digamber Jain Mandir winding through main Bazars and residential localities of the city and submitted a memorandum to the DC expressing concern over the theft of the idols.
Apart from prompt police action for early recovery of the stolen idols and arrest of the guilty, they also sought security arrangements around temples to prevent recurrence of such incident in future.
