Tanvir remanded to police custody till August 17

Mumbai, Aug 4 (UNI) A local court today remanded to police custody till August 17 suspected Laskhar-e-Toiba activist and fourth accused Dr Tanvir Ahmed Mohammed Ansari (33), who was booked in the serial train blast in Mumbai.

Accused Dr Ansari, former Registered Medical Officer (RMO) of Sabusiddique hospital in southcentral Mumbai, was arrested on July 23 for his alleged role in the bomb blast conspiracy by the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) probing into the serial train blast.

Amidst tight security or Ansari was produced before Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate A M Garde at Mazgaon court, who remanded him to police custody.

He was booked under section 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons), 147 (rioting), 149 (unlawful assembly) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Indian Explosive Act.

Ansari was believed to have provided local train times and location for planting explosives in the trains to the plantors and also given shelter to them in Mumbai. He was one of the active member of banned Students of Islamic Movement of India (SIMI).

Ansari had also visited Pakistan and had made few calls in Nepal from his mobile phone prior to the blast.

Earlier, ATS had arrested three persons-- Mumtaz Ahmed Chaudhary from Ghansoli in Navi Mumbai and Mohammed Kalam Ansari and Mohammed Khalil Sheikh from Bihar in the blast case.

About 200 people were killed and more than 700 others injured in the serial train blasts in Mumbai on July 11.
