Suspect in Mumbai blasts arrested in Surankote
Jammu, Aug 4: In a joint operation, the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of Mumbai Police and CID (Counter Intelligence) sleuths of Jammu and Kashmir police arrested a youth from Poonch in connection with the 7/11 terror bombings in Mumbai in which about 200 people were killed.
Abdul Hameed was arrested from Sanei in Surankote yesterday evening.
This was the first arrest made in insurgency-hit Jammu and Kashmir in connection with the July 11 serial blasts in the megapolis.
The youth was produced before a court in Poonch, which allowed the ATS to take him on four day transit remand. He was taken from Jammu to New Delhi last late night.
The arrested youth was earlier working in an agency in Mumbai and has no criminal or militancy background, sources said.
However, the Mumbai police sources revealed that they recovered Hameed's identity card from one of the blast sites.
