Special committee to monitor Ranthambhore, Sariska, Keoladeo

Jaipur, Aug 4 (UNI) The Rajasthan government has set up a high-powered management committee to monitor Ranthambhore, Keoladeo and Sariska National Parks.

The committee would be headed by BJP MP V P Singh, who would send suggestions and reports directly to the chief minister from time to time. The other members include chief wildlife warden R N Mehrotra, wildlife photographer Valmik Thaper, animal rights activist Belinda Wright, wildlife expert Rajpal Singh Tanwar, Wildlife Institute of India's professor Dr V. B Mathur apart from chief secretaries of forest, tourism and finance and a director general of police.

The chief secretary of the finance department and a DGP have been included as members of the committee for the first time to ensure that funds and security do not pose a problem to commitee's major tasks.

The main objective of the committee is to prevent the poaching of animals and birds in these national parks. It will also take measures for increasing the number of tigers in the parks and rehabilitate the villagers displaced in the Sariska tiger reserve.

The committee will also suggest solutions to the water crisis in the Keoladeo National Park.
