Sonn made honorary member of Cricket South Africa

Johannesberg, Aug 4 (UNI) ICC President Percy Sonn has been made the honorary life member of Cricket South Africa (CSA) for his contribution in the struggle against aprtheid and towards the unification of cricket in the country.

The decision was taken at the CSA's annual general meeting yesterday at which the United Cricket Board of South Africa changed itself to CSA.

''Percy Sonn has been made an honorary life member because he has devoted more than 30 years to the administration of cricket in South Africa,'' CSA President Ray Mali said.

''He was a pioneer of the struggle against apartheid, as well as a pioneer of the unification of South African cricket that led to its current membership of the ICC,'' he added.

Meanwhile, the CSA also revealed its financial position for this year.

''The UCBSA and CSA experienced very successful financial results for the year ended April 30 2006 as both entities realised operating profits,'' board Treasurer Hentie van Wyk said.

''The operating profits of CSA and the UCBSA were 19.4 million rands and 6.7 million rands respectively, which represents a combined surplus of 26.1 million rands,'' he added.
