Indore, Aug 4 (UNI) The National SC/ST Commission has taken serious note of the absence of Mumbai's police commissioner at a hearing against Pakistani artistes who made an allegedly insulting remark against SCs during a programme on a private TV channel.

In a recently-issued summons, the commission directed the bureaucrat to be present at the commission's New Delhi headquarters on Wednesday but a junior officer came instead.

''The commissioner has been told to appear on August 24 failing which a NBW may be issued,'' commission Member Phoolchandra Verma told UNI.

In the wake of a complaint against artistes Irfan Malik and Ali Hussain, the commission directed the commissioner to register a case but the commission was not subsequently informed of the action taken.
