New Delhi, Aug 4: The Supreme Court today issued notices to the State of Chhattisgarh, the CBI and Amit Jogi on a petition seeking cancellation of the bail granted by the state High Court to the son of former Chief Minister Ajit Jogi in the Ram Avtar Jaggi murder case.

A bench comprising Justice Arijit Pasayat and Justice Lokeshwar Singh Panta issued notices after hearing counsel for Satish Jaggi whose father, Ram Avtar, was killed when he was campaigning during the last assembly elections in the state.

Ram Avtar was the treasurer of NCP headed by Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar. Amit Jogi is the main suspect in the case and he was granted bail by the High Court on May 3, on the grounds that since the trial in the case was not likely to be completed within six months, it was a case for grant of bail to the accused.

Counsel for the petitioner contented before the court that the High Court cannot issue directions to the trial court to conclude the trial within a specified period and hence the impugned order of the High Court was bad in law and is therefore liable to be set aside.
