Srinagar, Aug 4 (UNI) Describing the recent grenade attacks on tourists as a blot on the traditional hospitality of Kashmir, Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Baig asked the local tour operators to instill confidence among visitors to the valley.

Describing tourism as an enterprise of hope, Mr Baig said trade brings diverse cultures and people closer to each other.

Reminding local tour operators of their responsibilities, the Deputy Chief Minister asked them to be factual, honest and never mislead while providing inputs to the intending tourists.

He said processions were taken out against these incidents and the silent anger was given a word of protest.

He asked the members of the industry to stick to a self imposed set of guidelines for providing better facilities and services to the tourists adding that good behaviour is an investment in the industry.

Speaking at a function here he said the people associated with tour and travel are ambassadors of civilization and brotherhood.

Inaugurating the first one-day conference of All India Tour and Travel Operators here last evening, Mr Baig said tourism is a sector, more than just earnings and making livelihoods.

He appreciated the responsible positions taken by the respective state governments of West Bengal and Gujarat after tourist attacks.

The West Bengal Tourism Minister said the bonds between the people of his state and Kashmir are time tested and said his Government stood by the people of Kashmir, Baig added.

Mr Baig said Kashmir in near future is becoming an attraction of international repute and the Government is improving upon the infrastructure.

He said many places in the world like Israel, Egypt and Sri Lanka are most sought after tourist destinations despite the violence in these places.
