Agartala, Aug 04 (UNI) Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) has condemned the appointment of Nishit Adhikari, former minister from West Bengal, as Advocate General of Guwahati High Court, Tripura Bench.

Opposition leader Ratan Lal Nath in a statement said though there were many capable and renowned lawyers from the state, the ruling CPI(M) led Left Front government had appointed an 'outsider' for the highest post in the legal office.

Mr Adhikari had recently joined as the Advocate General(AG), Tripura bench of Guwahati High Court here, amidst opposition from many quarters. Former Advocate Generals Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharjee and Tarun Roy also belonged to West Bengal. Mr Ashok Chakraborty, the former AG was the only native of Tripura during the Left Front tenure, Mr Nath said.

The opposition leader also raised the issue about the state government's decision of bearing all expenses, including the to and fro airfare of the AG, from Agartala to Kolkata four times a month.

''How can such a rule be applicable for the AG,'' he questioned. He also mentioned that such 'illogical' decisions of the state government had 'humiliated' all the law practitioners in the state.
