No arrests in 'sati' incident
Lucknow, Aug 4 (UNI) Police have made no arrests in an alleged case of abetting 'sati' by a woman in Fatehpur district of Uttar Pradesh.
Police said although two teams were formed to nab those named in the FIR, arrests were yet to be made.
On August 2, Sangeeta Devi was forced to commit 'sati' on husband Raidas' pyre. But, she managed to escape with the help of a few villagers and reached the police station.
Raidas had died after consuming spurious liquor. When Sangeeta accompanied his body to the crematorium, local gram pradhan Mamta Devi and Raidas' brother Shiv Prasad forced Sangeeta to commit 'sati'.
When cops lodged an FIR against Mamta, her husband Surendra and Shiv Prasad, some villagers reached the police station and raised anti-police slogans.
But, the mob was dispersed by the police.
Police, meanwhile, constituted two teams to nab the accused. But, so far no arrests have been made.
Sangeeta is reportedly staying at the police station fearing a backlash by her relatives.
