MP Govt denies hunger death in Chhatarpur

Bhopal, Aug 4: The Madhya Pradesh Government has clarified that the death of a 14-year-old girl at Chhatarpur tehsil in Chhatarpur district was caused by disease and not hunger.

In his report to the state government, Chhatarpur Collector Mr Ajatshatru has said Zilaul Rehman's daughter Rubi died due to disease, as per official information.

After reports of Rubi's death due to hunger came, the Collector directed tehsiladar to go to the family's home and inquire into the matter.

The tehsildar found that the home had facilities such as bed, cloths and utensils besides 5 kg flour and vegetables.

Family members and neighbours said the girl was not keeping well since a long time. After her death, autopsy was also performed.

The Chhatarpur Civil Surgeon said Rubi was brought to hospital on August 2 and was found dead during examination.

Rubi's younger sister is suffering from Lymph node tuberculosis and is undergoing treatment. A magisterial inquiry had been ordered into the incident.

Family members of the deceased had been provided Rs 5,000 ex-gratia and 50 kg wheat.
