K'taka to set up SHGs for disabled people

Bangalore, Aug 4 (UNI) The Karnataka Government has decided to immediately set up 1,750 self help groups (SHGs) for disabled people in the state on the lines of SHGs for women, Women and Child Development Minister H K Kumaraswamy informed today.

Talking to newspersons here, he said the government would issue a circular in the next few days for setting up ten SHGs in each taluk, with a revolving fund for their welfare.

Mr Kumaraswamy said ''This is a special programme drawn up by the JD (S)-BJP coalition government to help nine lakh disabled population in the state.'' He also informed that the government would be providing job-oriented training to 1,000 disabled students this year to uplift them.

Stating that the government also proposed to set up a welfare fund for the disabled population, he appealed to the public to generously contribute towards it.
