NAIROBI, Aug 4 (Reuters) A runner in Kenya's world junior championships team was charged today with forging his age on official documents.

Thomas Loriongosiwa pleaded not guilty at a Nairobi court to the charges of forging his age on his birth certificate and providing false information on a passport application.

His arrest on Wednesday followed a meeting between Kenyan Sports Minister Maina Kamanda and International Association of Athletics Federations president Lamine Diack in Monaco in July where the issue of age falsifying among Kenyans was discussed.

One of Loriongosiwa's passports indicated he was born on January 14, 1982 and another May 14, 1988. The case will be heard on October 24.

Loriongosiwa was in the Kenyan junior team who won the overall title in the world cross country championships in Fukuoka, Japan in April.

The world junior championships are restricted to athletes aged 16 to 17 years, while the junior men's race at the world cross country event is restricted to competitors of 18 and 19.
