John Wright's comment need to be addressed: Greg Chappell
New Delhi, Aug 4: All praise for his Kiwi predecessor, Team India coach Greg Chappell said the issues raised by John Wright in his book ''Indian Summer'' needed to be addressed.
''I haven't read the book but I think he made comments which need to be addressed,'' said Chappell who just returned from his vacation in the US.
''John put in place so many things and laid the foundation of the team we have. He made things easier for me. I've tremendous respect for him and I feel that he's got a lot of points. We need to see them in right perspective,'' the India coach told CNN-IBN.
However, Chappell denied any zonal bias in the team selection.
''It might have been happening earlier, I can't really comment on that but definitely not now. The selectors pick the best team possible and I am saying that from my own experience,'' the coach said.
The Aussie also defended the role of coach and captain while selecting the team.
On Team India's 'Mission Secret'and military-style training, the coach said the camp helped the Men in Blue gell together.
''The camp helped guys look at things from a different perspective. It brought them together. They loved the activities out there. If nothing else, it was sort of a week's off from the cricket field which has rejuvenated them.''
Chappell also maintained that the one-day series loss in the Caribbean was a blessing in disguise. ''No doubt the ODI loss was a setback but while winning and losing we should not lose focus from learning lessons. We learned our lessons from West Indies and in that sense the loss was not all that bad.'' Chappell also refused to regret his decision of dropping Irfan Pathan during the Tests against West Indies.
''I have no hesitation in saying that Irfan was low on confidence. That may offend some but truth should not be shrouded.
He was exhausted and we need to withdraw him for his own good,'' he said.
The Aussie also indicated that Kumble may stage a comeback in one-day squad in the near future.
On the upcoming Sri Lanka tri-series, Chappell said it would be intresting to see how the team performs there this time.
On his first assignment as coach last year, Chappell saw Team India losing to the Islanders in final in the tri-series which also featured West Indies.
