Srinagar, Aug 4 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly today passed a bill enhancing the salaries and allowances of legislators, ministers and Deputy ministers.

Moved by Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Baig in the house, the bill was aimed at amending the laws governing the Salaries and Allowances of members, Presiding officers of the State Legislature, Ministers and Deputy Ministers.

The bill was passed with voice vote after a brief discussion in the house.

Wrapping up the discussion on the bill, the Deputy Chief Minister also announced that the government would soon bring a similar bill on pension of the former legislators.

He also announced the honorarium of the personal assistants of the legislators would be increased to Rs 3000 per month.

Under clauses 2 to 7 of the bill, salaries and other perks of the members,presiding officers, ministers and deputy ministers are proposed to be enhanced.

The expenditure by the said enhancement is to the tune of Rs 3 crores per annum approximately, the bill said.

From now on Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council Chairmans and Legislative Assembly Speaker will get Rs 20,000 instead of Rs 7,000.
