I have nothing left to prove, says Shilpa Shetty

Mumbai, Aug 4 (UNI) Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty says that she has never slotted herself in a particular genre of movies in her 14-year old film career.

''I have done thrillers, action, romantic, comedy and serious movies. I have carved a niche for myself and have nothing to prove,'' she said while talking to reporters here last evening to announce the launch of her next movie 'Metro' directed by Anurag Basu and produced by UTV.

''I have done Badhai Ho Badhai which is a Mukta Arts production and my sister Shamita debuted in a Yashraj film. So I think we have maintained a balance,'' she said.

Shilpa whose film with Salman Khan 'Shaadi Kar ke Phans Gaye Yar' releases today, said the film was a comic way to portray that marriages are not easy but could be worked out.

''I firmly believe in the institution of marriage. I have seen my parents happily married for so many years,'' she said.

Speaking about her co-star Salman Khan in the film, Shilpa said, ''We got to know each other about 14 years ago during a show and the meeting started a good friendship which has lasted even today.

Salman is a true friend. If you irk him, he will react. It is a natural tendency.'' To a question on her glowing complexion and ''perfect'' figure Shilpa said it had got much to do with her behaviour of being happy and feeling happy as well. ''I believe in being healthy and fit. I do not believe in dieting,'' she said.

Speaking about 'Metro', Shilpa said she had seen Anurag Basu's 'Murder' and 'Gangster' and liked the manner in which he handles the subjects of his movies. 'Metro' is a commercially viable as well as realistic film. ''It's a very urban movie and revolves around relationships and audiences can relate to the story. It is based in Mumbai, which is the most recognized 'Metro' city in India. I am born and brought up in Mumbai and so I can relate to the film very well,'' she added.

To a question about 'Apne' directed by Anil Sharma featuring herself with the Deols, Shilpa said, ''The film had a very Punjabi ethos and was high on emotions. I am lucky to share screen space with the Deols. I play a girl from Chandigarh in the film.'' She said It was very important for actors to be emotional people so that they can essay different kinds of roles effortlessly.
