New Delhi, Aug 4 (UNI) A day after a burst of heavy rainfall accompanied by high-speed winds brought about certain coolness in the weather, it was back to humid conditions in the national capital today.

After witnessing a predominantly overcast sky yesterday, it was a largely sunny day with brief cloudy intervals today. Though South Easterly winds did provide some relief from the scorching heat, the sultry weather left Delhiites perspiring.

The sultry conditions, coupled with bright sunlight, led to a rise in maximum temperature to 35.7 degrees Celsius, from 33.7 degrees yesterday.

The hot and humid weather today followed a sudden burst of heavy rainfall in Delhi yesterday afternoon which brought down mercury to 33.6 degrees yesterday.

After last week's heavy showers, which saw the city recieve the heaviest spell of Monsoon rains last Wednesday, this week has witnessed lull in rainfall activity, barring a short burst of heavy showers on Monday night and a sudden burst of heavy showers yesterday afternoon.

Consequently, this week witnessed sunny days interspersed with cloudy weather, resulting in constant rise in mercury.

The weather office has forecast a generally cloudy sky with a few spells of rain or thundershowers with the likelihood of heavy showers in some areas of the city during the next 24 hours.
