Hyderabad, Aug 4 (UNI) Flood-hit Andhra Pradesh will continue to receive heavy rains as yesterday's 'Deep Depression' over Gopalpur lies at about 100 km northeast of Jagdalpur, today.

Talking to UNI, Hyderabad Meteorological Centre Director, M Satya Kumar said under its influence, heavy to very heavy rain was likely at a few places and extremely heavy rainfall was expected at isolated places over Telangana during the next 48 hours.

Isolated heavy to very heavy rain also was likely in the districts of Visakhapatnam, East Godavari and West Godavari in the coastal region, he added.

''The depression is likely to move in a west-northwesterly direction and weaken gradually, resulting in a decreased rainfall in subsequent two days'', Mr Kumar said.

The state capital would receive intermittent rain or thundershowers, at times heavy, in the next two days. However, the current intensity was expected to mellow down in the worst-affected Vizianagarama and Srikakulam districts, he added.

Moderate to rather heavy rain or thundershowers were likely at most places over Telangana and in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari and West Godavari and other districts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Light to moderate rain or thundershowers were likely at a few places over Rayalaseema, he added.

The southwest monsoon became vigorous over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana as isolated rain occurred over Rayalaseema in the last 24 hours.

Koida recorded a very high 36 cm rainfall followed by Kaleswaram 29 cm, Eturnagaram and Ranasthalam 26 cm each and, Cheepurupalli 25 cm.
