Decks cleared for Lal Bahadur Shastri Memorial
Varanasi, Aug 4 (UNI) Decks have been cleared for setting-up of memorial for late Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri at his native place in Ramnagar here with the Uttar Pradesh government acquiring an open land and the house of the great leader's kin.
State culture department sources said here today, that registry of the open land and the two-storeyed house, edging the paternal house of Shastriji was completed yesterday.
While the state government paid Rs three lakh for the open land, an amount of Rs 42 lakh was provided to the relatives of the former Prime Mminister as compensation.
The UP government had in 2005 announced developing a memorial for the leader at a cost of Rs 15 crore.
The plan included the conservation of Shastriji's paternal house, besides developing a memorial for the late Prime Minister on the open land and two-storeyed house owned by his relatives.
The work on the memorial will begin shortly and the UP Nirman Nigam has already been paid Rs 36 lakh for the purpose.
