Corporate cricket raises 34,000 pound for Indian children
New Delhi, Aug 4 (UNI) Sixteen corporate teams battled it out in the inaugural London leg of the CRY Cadence Corporate Cricket Challenge (5Cs) London and raised 34,000 pound for mentally challenged Indian children.
Though it was the inaugural edition of 5Cs in London, the tournament is already in its sixth season in India.
''We have started out slightly smaller in the UK, but we're aiming to grow the tournament each year,'' explains Nina Munshi, CRY's UK representative.
''All the teams gave us very positive feedback and have promised to play again next year,' she said.
''Each team paid 1,000 pound to enter the tournament, a figure matched 100 per cent by Cadence this year. In addition, we need to thank our sponsors, Connect Communications who donated 6,000 pound, Ultima Business Solutions, who donated 5,000 pound and ADSI who gave 500 pound. These donations have meant that all the money raised can be passed straight to CRY, without having to cover costs,'' added Richard Hastings, Cadence representative.
The CRY UK volunteer team has decided that the funds will go to support Project Mon, based in rural West Bengal and Orissa that assists mentally challenged children.
