Asom govt woos Infosys to set up a campus in Asom

Guwahati, Aug 4: The Asom government today urged Infosys Technologies Limited chief mentor N R Narayana Murthy to open a campus in the state.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi had also requested Mr Murthy to help promote the state as a major IT hub in the country.

Mr Murthy assured the state government of his company's full assistance to promote IT in the region.

Mr Gogoi also said geographical isolation of the region, which proved to be a hurdle in industrialisation, would not pose to be a problem for development of IT professionals.

The Infosys chief mentor and Mr Gogoi also discussed ways to place Asom, in particular, and North East, in the nation's IT map.

Even the All Assam Students' Union (AASU) also wrote to the Chief Minister yesterday, asking him to exhort the Infosys chief mentor to open a campus in the state and allot government land for the purpose.

Mr Murthy during his interaction with the students of Assam Engineering College (AEC) focussed on the development of future leaders of the state. He also emphasised on the need for opting Information Technology (IT)-based courses. He pointed out that IT had touched the lives of all sections in a subtle manner and the engineering students were the best equipped to capitalise on this aspect.

'' The students must select their fields of specialisation with care, '' he said and congratulated them on the choice of engineering as career, which according to him was the most sought after option today.

Delivering the key-note address, 'Murthy Mantra', he said there were no shortcut to success and loyalty served in the long run.

Mr Murthy also highlighted the importance of dedication and commitment to attain success in life.

Terming IT as the most sought after career option in recent times, he called upon the youths to concentrate on excelling in their fields of operation.

He pointed out that the present generation had a myriad of career options unlike their predecessors, and Infosys always welcomed young talents having the zeal to excel.

The Infosys chief mentor was accorded 'state guest' status.
