Ashish clinches bronze in Asian Gymnastics

Allahabad, Aug 4 (UNI) Ashish Kumar of National Sports Academy here cornered glory winning the Bronze medal in floor excercises of the third Asian Gymnastics championship which concluded in Surat.

The Asian Gymnastics championship is dominated by stalwarts like China, Japan and Korea. Making dent in their domain, Indian Gymnasts Ashish Kumar and Mayank Srivastava of N S A proved their mettle by vaulting in the finals with their brillant performance.

A confident Ashish Kumar was in his elements right from the beginning and gave the home crowd enough hope for a medal.

Playing his first sub-Junior National Gymnastics championship in 2004, Ashish has till now won 30 gold, 11 silver and one Bronze medal in national championships. He made his debut in international events in the 29th Tulit Peter International Gymnastics championship in Hungary in December 2003 and has won five gold, four silver and five bronze medals at the international level.

Ashish was taken up by N S A for training in 1994 as part of its talent scouting programme and eventually included in its team of olympic aspirants and was given free of cost training, hostel facilities.
