All nations should deny safe haven to terrorists: Indo-Tajik
New Delhi, Aug 4 (UNI) India and Tajikistan today unequivocally condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and called upon all the countries to deny safe haven to terrorists.
In a joint statement at the end of the second meeting of the Indo-Tajik Joint Working Group on Countering International Terrorism here, the two sides reiterated their commitments to further strengthen counter-terrorism cooperation.
They agreed that the financing of terrorism was an important aspect to be looked into while framing the counter-terrorism strategy.
They also expressed concern over cross-border terrorism and the increase in the narcotics trade in the region.
The two sides emphasised the strengthening of bilateral mechanisms and agreed to continue to exchange information and share experience in the fight against terrorism.
To bolster capacity building, India offered training courses in various aspects of counter-terrorism. Tajikistan agreed to study the offer.
The two sides also discussed cooperation in the international fora and agreed to enhance ties through mutual consultations.
They also urged for the early finalisation of a Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism at the United Nations which India has sponsored and Tajikistan has supported.
Tajikistan reiterated their condemnation of the July 11 Mumbai train bombings.
Both sides agreed to hold the next session of the Indo-Tajik Joint Working Group on Counter Terrorism in Dushanbe in the first half of 2007.
The Indian delegation was led by Mr K C Singh, Additional Secretary (International Organisation) in the Ministry of External Affairs, while the Tajikistan delegation was headed by Mr Abdullo Uldoshev, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Both delegations included representatives of relevant Ministries and agencies.
