Two Bangladeshi dacoits killed

Agartala, Aug 3: Two dreaded Bangladeshi dacoits were killed and another seriously injured in a clash with the Village Resistance Party (VRP) and villagers in bordering sub-division of Sonamura in Tripura's west district, police today said.

A group of 10 to 12 Bangladeshi dacoits with country made weapons crossed over to the Indian side yesterday to commit dacoity at South Kalamchoura village, close to the Bangladesh border.

Hearing the news that Bangladeshi dacoits entered into the village, villagers along with the VRP soon gheraoed the miscreants.

The dacoits with weapons attacked the VRP activists and villagers, who immediately retaliated, killing two dacoits on the spot and injuring the other seriously. The injured was apprehended and admitted to local hospital.

The other members of the groups, however, managed to cross over to Bangladesh. All the dacoits belonged to Comilla district's Burichung area, police said.

In all, five dacoits from Bangladesh were killed in the Sonamura sub-division since the last two months and at least ten dacoities committed in the area.

BSF will hand over the bodies to Bangladesh authorities after holding a flag meeting with Bangladesh Rifles (BDR).

BSF is patrolling the area to foil any attempts of untoward incidents by the Bangladeshi people in connection with the killing of the two dacoits.
