Teenage prodigy Radjabov wants to conquer Anand in Mainz
Brussels, Aug 3 (UNI) Undaunted by the Indian chess wizard's reputation in the faster version of the game, teen Azerbaijan talent Teimour Radjabov wants to conquer Viswanathan Anand in the GrenkeLeasing Rapid World Championship to be played at Mainz from August 14 to 21.
Anand, defending champion and eight-time winner, will play eight matches against his ambitious, younger opponent in the tournament.
Radjabov's hopes of beating Anand is not a hollow claim, considering the youngster's Linares win against the then world number one Garry Kasparov.
Radjabov learned the royal game at the age of four. At 12, he won the EU18 Championship as the youngest player in the event and achieved Grandmaster status at the tender age of 14 years and 14 days.
In 2004, at the FIDE world Championship event in Tripoli, Radjabov went all the way to the semi-finals.
In the current rating list, 19-year-old Radjabov occupies the number 11 spot.
