Tajikistan President arriving on August 6
New Delhi, Aug 3: Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmonov will pay a five-day state visit to India from August 6-10 during which he will hold discussions with Indian leaders, including President A P J Abdul Kalam and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, on bilateral relations and regional and international issues of mutual interest.
The Tajikistan President, who will be accompanied by a high-level official and business delegation, will also visit Hyderabad and Jaipur, an External Affairs Ministry spokesman said today.
A number of agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) are expected to be signed during the visit.
The two countries are considering cooperation in the field of energy particularly development of the hydro-power potential of Tajikistan.
''The two Sides will have a detailed exchange of views on the state of our bilateral relations as well as on regional and international issues of mutual interest,'' the spokesman said.
Mr Rahmonov will address the India-Tajikistan business luncheon organised by FICCI, CII and ASSOCHAM.
He will also deliver the inaugural address at the India-Tajikistan Seminar to be held at the Indian Council of World Affairs. During the event, the Tajikistan President will release two volumes of the English translation of noted scholar of Tajikistan, Bobojon Gafurov's seminal work--Central Asia : Pre-Historic to Pre-Modern Times'.
The translation of Gafurov's work was undertaken by Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian Studies, Kolkata.
He will also release a book 'Selected Short Stories of Rabindranath Tagore' translated into Tajik language for the first time. This translation has been done by Indologists of Tajikistan.
Mr Rahmonov will attend a commemorative function to be organised at the tomb of the 18th century Indo-Persian poet Mirza Abdul Qadir Bedil who is reverred in Tajikistan.
India is a partner in Tajikistan's development and is involved in various projects and activities for human resource and technical capacity development in that country. Among them is the Bedil India-Tajikistan Centre for Information Technology which was inaugurated on July 18 in Dushanbe.
India is also involved in imparting training to Tajik nationals under the India Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) programme as well training of military personnel in Defence institutes.
