Security reviewed ahead of ULFA's I-Day boycott call
Guwahati, Aug 3 (UNI) The strategy group of the three-tier Unified Command structure in Asom reviewed security measures in view of militants' threat to disrupt Independence Day celebrations in the state.
The meeting held yesterday focused on security arrangements in the state capital, Upper Asom districts of Dibrugarh, Sivasagar and Jorhat and lower Asom's Barpeta districts given that these areas are considered vulnerable for strikes by the banned ULFA and fundamentalist organisations.
The meeting, chaired by Chief Secretary S Kabilan, took note of intelligence alert on subversions possibilities by ULFA and other fundamentalist groups in the run up to the I-Day celebrations.
ULFA has already called for boycott of the celebrations and called a 12-hour road blockade on August 15 to mar the celebrations.
Police and paramilitary forces had already mounted round-the-clock vigil at the venues of I-Day celebrations in the state.
The historic Judges's Field here has been put out of bounds for the people.
The strategy group meeting was attended by the state police chief, GOC 4 Corps of the Army, state Home Commissioner and other senior officials of the state police, CRPF and the BSF.
