New Delhi, Aug 3 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today promised 33 per cent income tax exemption on compensation received by families of the victims who suffered due to July 11 Mumbai bomb blasts.

Nearly 187 people had died and 817 injured. About 200 were seriously injured, of them 83 were still in intensive care unit.

Their treatment costs were being processed by the Railway Tribunal.

Mr Singh met some members of Parliament from the Maharashtra unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and promised a relief of Rs two crore from the PM Relief Fund if the Railway Board did not clear their claims fast.

The MPs also said that Rs 51 crore had been spent on widening and dredging the Mithi river due to which waterlogging and flooding takes place every year in Mumbai.

The state government and the Centre had not contributed any amount as yet, said the MPs who were led by Mr Kirit Somaiya.

The Prime Minister reportedly accepted a Rs 1,800 crore plan submitted by the MPs for a flood-free Mumbai action plan.
