Rescind GO and maintain status quo: TNMMK
Chennai, Aug 2 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Muslim Makkal Katchi (TNMMK) appealed to the State Government to rescind the GO which made study of Tamil mandatory from class one to 12.
A party release issued here tonight described the decision of the government as ''ill advised anti-Urdu linguistic policy'' as it went against the interests of the Urdu loving people.
It alleged that the GO made it compulsory for the Urdu loving members of the Urdu linguistic Community to switch over to Tamil as the first language. It also over-burdened the student community with an additional optional subject if they wished to study Urdu, the release added.
The party urged the government to maintain status quo ante.
