RCBC to host district Table Tennis Championship

Pune, Aug 3 (UNI) Leading paddlers from all over the district will be matching their talents in the district table tennis championship being hosted by the Royal Connaught Boat Club (RCBC) at their complex here from August 10 to 15.

The district championship returns to RCBC after a long gap offering a total prize money of Rs 30,000. The competitions will be held in various age groups for boys and girls in cadet, subjunior, junior, youth and veteran sections besides men and women groups.

Tournament organising secretary Shrikant Anturkar of Pune District Table Tennis Association (PDTTA) and RCBC honorary secretary Ajay Gujarathi said the championship assumes importance as it would serve as the barometer to select the district teams which will take part in the respective state championships.

RCBC a premie club -- legacy of the British Raj -- has revived the championship with a view to make it an annual feature Mr Gujarathi said.

The club has always been in the forefront of hosting national and international rowing regattas along with tennis and swimming, billiards and snooker events annually, Mr Gurathi elaborated.
