Punjab govt to launch pulses distribution scheme on Aug 17

Moga, Aug 3 (UNI) The Punjab government will launch its pulses distribution scheme among the poor families from August 17.

PUNSUP, the nodal agency for this scheme will distribute pulses to all ration card holders in the state on a no-profit-no-loss basis, the state Food and Civil Supplies minister Avtar Henry here today said.

The pulses to be distributed by PUNSUP include moong, which is consumed by a large number of Punjabi families and arhar that is eaten by the labour class particularly those from Bihar and UP. The Punjab government will distribute moong and arhar at cheaper rates than the prevailing market price.

The Punjab government had last month decided to buy moong and arhar in bulk quantities from other states for distribution among poor families. Markfed had been entrusted with the task of procuring the two varieties of pulses .

Mr Henry said the two varieties of pulses would be distributed through 297 distribution centres of PUNSUP. Besides about 100 odd mobile vans would be pressed into service for distribution in the remote areas, he added.
