Police inform HC about arrest of accused in infant's murder

Kochi, Aug 3 (UNI) Kerala police today informed the High Court that all the accused persons involved in the murder of a two-and-a-half-month old baby belonging to a nomadic group at Cherupuzha near Kannur, were arrested.

Police denied the allegation that 20 persons were involved in the case and investigation was dropped due to pressure from influential groups. The incident occured at 0100 hours on May 15, in Peringam police station limits.

Police made this submission before the Bench comprising Chief Justice V K Bali and Mr Justice M Ramachandran when a PIL seeking a proper investigation into the murder case of the child came up for hearing.

In the light of the police stand, petitioner C P Peethambaran also complained that there was no action, on the part of the police, to book the culprits involved in the rape of a 14-year-old girl of the nomadic group.

The Bench directed the petitioner to lodge a complaint with Peringam police and said police would take action on the complaint.
