PM apologises to Pak human rights activist Asma Jehangir
New Delhi, Aug 3 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today apologised to Pakistan's human rights activist Asma Jehangir for the inconvenience caused to her by a security check by the police in her hotel room in the capital.
The Prime Minister telephoned Ms Jehangir, who is here to attend a bureau meeting of the South Asians for Human Rights (SAHR), and tendered an apology for the police action, a PMO spokesman said.
Dr Singh also invited her to visit India again. Ms Jehangir thanked the Prime Minister for his gesture, the spokesman said.
The Pakistani delegate had taken exception to the police searching her room without a warrant and questioning her guests at the hotel room. There was also no woman police in the search team, she had contended.
Police had subsequently searched the rooms of her guests, who were also from Pakistan, she said.
