New Delhi, Aug 3 (UNI) The Lok Sabha today passed the bill repealing the Spirituous Preparations (Inter-State Trade and Commerce) Control Act of 1955 which was enacted to restrict inter-state trade of spirituous medicinal and other preparations.

The Bill, piloted by Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, was passed after a brief debate that the law had become obsolete with states having their separate policies of prohibition and regulating of liquor trade.

The Bill got unanimous support from the members of all parties but with a warning from some members that some provisions should be made to enforce the brewing of quality liqour as to keep the health of the consumers in view.
