Kite-flyers asked to stay clear of high-tension power cables
New Delhi, Aug 3 (UNI) With the kite-flying season just set in, the Delhi government today issued a word of caution for enthusiasts to indulge in the hobby in open areas away from high-tension electricity wires.
Concerned about injuries and even deaths caused by metal-coated kite threads coming in contact with high tension wires, Delhi Transco put out public notices in prominent newspapers urging kite-flyers, especially children, to exercise caution and choose areas free of power transmission lines.
Besides, injuries and death, metal threads coming in contact with overhead electrical cables caused tripping/blackouts/power failures.
Kite flying season, currently on, would reach its peak on August 15.
Each year scores of people, specially children, were injured and some of them even died of electrocution, fell off buildings or were hit by vehicles chasing/flying kites.
