Karaikal to become tourist centre: CM

Pondicherry, Aug 3 (UNI) The government is taking several steps to make Karaikal a tourist centre, Chief Minister N Rangasamy told the Assembly today.

Replying to a question, Mr Rangasamy said setting up an airport, developing Thirunallar Temple Town, beautification of the Karaikal Beach and establishing parks in residential areas and commune panchayat areas were among the steps being taken by the government.

Answering another question, Education Minister M O H F Shajahan said the administration was taking steps to fill up all vacancies in government schools within the current month.

He said 120 posts of primary school teachers, 141 lecturers, 31 primary school headmasters, 99 school assistants grade-2, seven head masters Grade-2 and 24 headmasters Grade-1 were vacant on date.

The government would consider providing incentives to teachers working in rural areas to encourage them to work in rural schools.
