Srinagar, Aug 3: Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly was today adjourned for the day without conducting any business after opposition National Conference (NC) members demanded recall of its member Sharif-Ud-ddin Shariq who was suspended for two days yesterday.

As soon as speaker Tara Chand called the first question of the day, the members of the main opposition NC were on their feet raising slogans against the suspension of Mr Shariq from the house.

''We want justice and recall Mr Shariq,'' the NC members said adding the suspension of the former Member of Parliament was against rules.

Despite repeated pleas by the speaker to NC members to resume their seats and allow the functioning of the house smoothly, the NC members kept on shouting and nothing was heard in the din.

The leader of the opposition A R Rather challenging the suspension of Mr Shariq said under rule 411 it was the duty of the speaker to name a member first and warn him before allowing a resolution against him if he was obstructing the proceedings of the house.

No such procedure was adopted and a resolution was moved by the treasury bench which was adopted in the absence of Mr Shariq and other opposition, Mr Rather said adding it was against the rules.

However, when the NC refused to resume their seats and continued shouting, the speaker adjourned the house for 15 minutes.

Later, Mr Rather was called by Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad in his chamber to sort out the things. Communist Party of India (M) member Mohammad Yousuf Targami was also seen entering into the chamber of Mr Azad.

However, after about an hour's meeting between Mr Azad and Mr Rather failed to yield any result, the house again assembled at 1215 hours, for about 2 hours after the first adjournment.

Speaker called the name of NC Ali Mohammad Sagar to raise his calling attention motion, but the NC members continued their protest. However, when the NC members said they will not allow the house to function and kept shouting, the speaker adjourned the house for the day to meet again tomorrow. Mr Shariq was suspended from the house yesterday for two days during a bill discussion in which there was some heated discussion between the members of opposition and treasury bench.

Later, the members from treasury bench demanded suspension of Sharief-ud-Din Shariq for using unparliamentary language.

Speaker adjourned the House for 10 minutes. However, when the House again met the members of treasury bench continued to stress for suspending the member and came into the well.

Deputy Chief Minister proposed suspension of Mr Shariq from the House for rest of the session which was seconded by a number of members from the treasury bench.

Putting the resolution to vote and receiving the node from all the members present in the House, Speaker suspended Sharief-ud- Din Shariq for next two days of the session.
