Israel plans to expand Lebanon security zone - army
SASA, Israel, Aug 3 (Reuters) The Israeli army plans in the next few days to clear a 15 km (9 mile) security area in southern Lebanon, an army spokesman said today.
Maj. Zvika Golan, spokesman for the northern command, told reporters that the army was already in control of some 20 villages at a depth of 6-7 kms (3.7-4.3 miles).
''We are looking to clear 15 km into Lebanon within the next few days. We're going to need more brigades, probably two more, and that will depend on government authorisation,'' Golan said.
Israel already has more than 10,000 troops in Lebanon. Adding two more brigades could bring that number closer to 12,000.
