IFA secretary assaulted,car broken by Md Sporting supporters
Kolkata, Aug 3 (UNI) The Rahim Nabi issue today snowballed into a big trouble when Mohameddan Sporting supporters attacked IFA secretary Subrata Dutta and vandalised his car at the club tent this evening.
The incident occurred in the evening when, along with AIFF Secretary Alberto Colaco, Subrata Dutta went to Mohameddan tent.
The supporters present there enraged by the fact that Rahim Nabi put on the East Bengal colours assaulted Subrata Dutta, alleging that the secretary was biased towards the red-golds and had hence allowed him to play.
They next broke his car, while Mr Dutta was taken away to safety.
Mohameddan coach Subhas Bhowmik tried to intervene to broker peace but in vain as the angry supporters continued to give vent to their ire and once Mr Dutta left, another IFA official faced the wrath as they beat him up.
The Rahim Nabi issue had been a bone of contention for Mohameddan Sporting and East bengal, but after the footballer accepted that he had taken advance and given his token to East Bengal and willed to play for the club, the IFA gave its verdict against the black-white.
Their anger was further fuelled by the fact that Malswama Tulunga, M.Suresh and Md Mukhtar are not being able to play, while Nabi already played for East Bengal.
However, the players' committee of IFA is due to meet next Tuesday to decide on their fate.
Meanwhile, police came to the tent to bring peace. Mr Dutta said, '' This is no solution to the problem. It will not be of any help.
He asked the supporters to have patience and wait till the meeting is over. '' UNI BA SJC AB DH RS2039
