Govt to spend Rs 20 cr for development of sports

Surat, Aug 3 (UNI) The Gujarat government is planning to spend Rs 20 crore for all the districts for the development of sports.

This was announced today by State Education and Sports Minister Anandiben Patel in the concluding ceremony of the third Asian Senior Artistic and Rhythmic Gymnastic Championship at Deendhayal Upadhyaya Indoor Stadium.

There were 19 countries in the meet and most of the countries performed well, president of the Gymnastics Federation of India Sudhir Mittal said.

China - the champion in the last Asian Gymnastics Championship retained their position by securing 20 medals. They won 10 gold medals, six silver and four bronze.

Japan achieved the second place by gaining 13 medals and North Korea attained the third place with 11 medals.

India's lone medal was won by Ashish Kumar in the floor excercise of the men's artistic gymnastics apparatus final.
