Govt should reserve 27 per cent for minorities : Ramadoss

Chennai, Aug 3 (UNI) Pattali Makkal Katchi(PMK)-founder S Ramadoss today said the Government should reserve 27 per cent seats for minority communities in educational institutions with immediate effect.

Talking to newspersons at his Thailapuram residence, he alleged that some vested interests with the active connivance of a section of the media were attempting to thwart its implementation.

Dr Ramadoss said it was not impossible for the Centre to manage Rs 16,500 crore, considering the fact that the Government has been incurring lakhs and lakhs of rupees as expenditure.

He said as recorded by Reserve Bank of India and Central Bank, of the Rs 15 lakh crore deposits in nationalised banks, three lakh crore was being treated as 'Reserve for Doubtful Debts', if not as 'Bad Debts', and wondered to whom this money was being transferred.

The concerned persons will speak to the Congress spokesman Mr Veerappa Moily in this regard, he added.

Dr Ramadoss said those opposing reservation must realise that agitation against reservation as in 1990 would not succeed now.

There will be a snowballing effect, if social justice is not meted out to the minority community, he added.

He said the Centre should implement reservation in private sector.

It is wrong to assume that the minority community and the backward castes are not eligible for employment in private companies.

He alleged that the AIADMK supremo J Jalayalithaa has not changed her style of functioning, as was evident in her statements and performance in the assembly.

Ms Jayalalithaa should hand over the destiny of the party to Mr O Panneerselvam and settle down in Hyderabad, he stated.
