Govt plans giving licence to Air Traffic Controllers

New Delhi, Aug 3 (UNI) The government is contemplating giving licences to Air Traffic Controllers (ATCs) on the lines of pilots.

However, at present there is no provision in Aircraft Act, 1934, for the Union government to make the Rules regarding issue of licence to Air Traffic Contollers in India, Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patl told the Lok Sabha in a written reply.

The Minister said the government has approved the draft Aircraft (Amendment) Bill , 2006, seeking amdnement in the Aircraft Act, 1934. It has sought to acquire the power in Section 5 of the Act to make Rules on licensing of ATCOs.

The Bill is likely to be introduced in the current Monsoon Session of Parliament. Framing of rules and its implementation would begin once the proposed legislation is enacted, Mr Patel said.
